President, Mary Lang and Principal, Martha Tedesco
Today we took special time to thank God for all of the blessings in our school community during our Thanksgiving Celebration prayer service. In addition, we announced the winner of the Assumption Rose Award given to a faculty or staff member who has made a significant difference in the lives of our students. Assumption is proud that Scott Spinetto, Math Teacher, was our recipient of this award – congratulations to Mr. Spinetto!
We would like to wish all of our Rocket families a safe and happy Thanksgiving. We are thankful and offer this Thanksgiving prayer for each and every one of you!
Loving God,
We turn our hearts to you on this day for giving thanks, mindful of your many gifts.
For each one, we are grateful.
For each one, we are blessed.
For each one, we are open to the abundance of your love.
May this Thanksgiving Day offer a reminder to be generous with others, as you are with us.
We praise you.
We rejoice in you.
We give you thanks.
Amen.
— William H. Sadlier

Today at our annual Thanksgiving Celebration, a letter was read to Chief Lamey to thank him for his kind and watchful presence between the school and parking lot at Highland Hall. Here is an excerpt from the letter that Main Office Receptionist, Amy Schelb, read on behalf of several of our students, faculty, and staff members.
Sophomore Evie Palazzo said, “Thank you for giving your time to make sure Assumption students are safe arriving to school. Even though this job can be dangerous, you put Assumption students before yourself. Because of your commitment to ensure the safety of Assumption students, our families are everyday grateful for you.”
Junior Emma Tully also said, “I park over at Highland Hall and I would never be able to get over to school and back without you (literally). Thank you for keeping my classmates and I safe all the time! Not only are you great at directing traffic, you also are the kindest man I’ve ever met. Every day when I cross you say “Have a great day” and “I’ll see you tomorrow or this afternoon”. You will never know how much you saying that makes my day. Thank you for everything you do!”
Perhaps Mrs. Lipscomb summed it up best when she said, “He is our Guardian Angel!” Chief Lamey, Assumption is so grateful for all you do for our community.

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAYS: Assumption will close for Thanksgiving break from Wednesday, November 23 – Friday, November 25.
SLIGHT CALENDAR CHANGE TO DISMISSAL TIME ON DECEMBER 9: We had previously announced on our school calendar that Friday, December 9, would be a 12:30 dismissal day so that faculty and staff can attend a special professional development session related to our diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Due to an early dismissal conflict with St. Raphael, we need to move the dismissal up to a 12:00 p.m. dismissal day to avoid traffic congestion on our shared campus. Please mark on your calendars that Friday, December 9, will be a 12:00 dismissal, not a 12:30 dismissal. After-school supervision will not be provided on this day, so please make arrangements for your daughters to be picked up by 12:15 p.m.

ASSUMPTION PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group will meet on November 29 from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the AHS chapel and will continue to meet each Tuesday morning throughout the school year. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. During the year, we pray for every student by name twice. Next week, we will be praying for the CHARLEVILLE freshmen and sophomore families. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities.

This week, freshmen and seniors had class meetings while sophomores and juniors participated in a special LEO about leadership.
Next week, students will continue bringing in cans for our upcoming Canstruction on Friday. Seniors will hold a class meeting this week in which they will learn about possible prom themes, and juniors will hold a class meeting in which they will learn about SCOIR, our online portal for all things college related. The winners of the Class of 2026 Pet Photo Contest will be announced at a special class meeting on Thursday. All students will be in homeroom on Monday for the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Additionally, seniors, juniors, and sophomores will begin hearing about policies and procedures for late openings and inclement weather. Freshmen will hear the same information the following week.

SECOND SEMESTER SCHEDULES: Your daughter will receive her second semester schedule on Tuesday, December 6, during LEAD & Learn. Please take a moment to ask your daughter about her schedule and if needed, she can see her dean during her study hall on December 7 or 8. For any levels changes, she should already be in conversation with her teacher and will also need written approval from a parent. These forms are available in the main office. Of course, Judy Fieldhouse (A – K) and Theresa Schuhmann (L – Z) are always available if you have any questions or concerns.
WORK IT WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER SCHEDULE: The Achievement Center will be hosting a Work It Wednesday next week on November 30. Students are invited to come to the Media Center from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. to receive extra support in their classes from peer tutors, study groups, or the AC teachers. We’ve had a wonderful response and to ensure we are meeting everyone’s needs, we ask students to please RSVP in advance.
FLIK LUNCH ACCOUNT BALANCES: Please take a moment to review your daughter’s FLIK lunch account balance at www.myschoolbucks.com. You can add money to her account through myschoolbucks.com or bring a check to the school office/cafeteria mailbox. Email notifications have been going out to parents whose daughters currently have a low or negative balance. Please be aware that the notifications will come from either myschoolbucks.com (if you have it set up to automatically notify you of a low balance), or they will come from flik@ahsrockets.org or Victoria.Gavin@compass-usa.com
FINANCIAL AID FORM: The financial aid link for the 2023-2024 school year has been added to the school’s website. The due date is January 31, 2023, and the form must be submitted online to FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment. FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION LINK. As a reminder, you are required to file every year to receive assistance.
AP EXAMS: If your daughter is taking an AP course this year, she has been busy signing up for AP college exams and AP portfolio submissions. These AP courses will be administered the first few weeks of May at Assumption High School. AP exam and AP portfolio submission invoices will be sent to parents via email from Blackbaud Tuition Management (formerly Smart Tuition) in January. Please take a moment to talk with your daughter about the exams she is registered to take. Exam art portfolio submissions are $97 each except for AP Research and AP Seminar which are $145 each. For more information about AP exams and CollegeBoard, visit https://parents.collegeboard.org/college-board-programs/advanced-placement-program. Please contact Judy.Fieldhouse@ahsrockets.org or Kathy.Fleischer@ahsrockets.org if you have any questions.
CANSTRUCTION: Canstruction is coming up! Canstruction is one of the biggest events in our Assumption community. This event provides the opportunity to donate to Dare to Care by bringing in canned goods for those in need. An Assumption tradition since 2006, Canstruction not only provides food for the community at large (just shy of 18,000 cans collected during our collection last year!), but also provides an opportunity for family bonding. The families collect cans in their homerooms as well as strengthen family relationships. Canstruction is Friday, December 2, so that will be the last collection day, but we will begin collecting cans on November 15. We are looking forward to having the Assumption community help the Louisville community through our partnership with Dare to Care!
DUAL CREDIT TUITION DUE TO WKU, JCTC, AND UL: Students enrolled in a dual credit class this semester need to make sure they pay any tuition owed by the beginning of December. Students should log into their accounts on www.KHEAA.com to double check which colleges they chose for disbursement for the Dual Credit Scholarship and then need to log into their JCTC, WKU, and/or UL account to pay any remaining tuition due for this semester. This includes all first semester and yearlong DC courses except for Precalculus and Calculus, which will register for credit in January. If you need help knowing which course is associated with which university, consult this sheet from our website: DUAL CREDIT INFORMATION 2022-2023. If you have any questions, contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE.

They may learn more about the interest sessions and register here. Please share with any prospective students you may know!

SENIOR YEARBOOK TRIBUTES – DUE TODAY: Over the years, senior parents have developed a tradition of supporting certain activities important to their graduating daughters at Assumption. One of these is helping to underwrite the cost of printing the yearbook by purchasing “Senior Tributes” that can contain text, personal photos, senior drapes, or professionally created senior pictures. “Senior Tributes” can be a great way to document and celebrate your daughter’s time as an Assumption Rocket. If you are interested in purchasing a “Senior Tribute”, you will find size and pricing information at this link. The deadline to submit tribute contracts is Tuesday, November 22. Please feel free to reach out to Kayla Daley, yearbook adviser, at kayla.daley@ahsrockets.org with any questions. Thank you for your support of the Assumption Rosecast!

Congratulations to sophomore Elizabeth Buttes who has completed at least three LEOs and is now eligible for one of our Christian Leadership Distinctions!
