FEBRUARY 17, 2022

Since the fall of 1976, Assumption sophomores have proudly served the Louisville community through the ACTS (A Christian Through Service) program. Even last year when we were unable to do this traditional service in person due to COVID, the program creatively lived on through the Class of 2023, our current juniors, who with great grit and tenacity kept the program alive through their virtual efforts. This year, through the commitment of 33 agencies who share in our belief that compassion truly does inspire, we have been able to engage our 212 sophomores in this important work. We are so grateful to our Service Learning Director, Katelyn Moore, for her steadfast commitment and planning to make this happen despite the continued challenges of this year, the open and willing hearts of the Class of 2024 who are so beautifully embracing this good work, and the guidance and support of our faculty and staff who work so diligently with our students to accommodate this service during the school day. We are additionally thankful to our sophomore parents and guardians for their trust, support, and encouragement of this long-standing Assumption tradition! We ask all of you to please keep our ACTS angels in your prayers as they continue to live out their faith through this meaningful and life-changing service-learning program this semester.

To keep our families informed of the impact of COVID on our school, we continue reporting our positive COVID cases each week via the Rocket Report.
- This week, (reporting from Friday 2/11/22 up to Wednesday 2/17/22); we had 0 positive COVID cases.
- Since the start of this semester, we have had 198 positive COVID cases. 176 were students and 22 were faculty/staff.
Mask Mandate: As we mentioned in our special message sent on February 10, AHS moved to mask optional starting February 14. We will be moving between being mask optional and mandating masks depending on the circumstances and will review the situation on a weekly basis and make a determination regarding masks for the following week. Based on our current Covid numbers, AHS will continue to be mask optional for next week.

This past Saturday, many dads learned about the new Assumption Rocket Men (ARM) group at the Father/Daughter dance. The goal of developing ARM is aimed at providing a way to be involved during your student’s time at AHS. We hope to offer opportunities that are both fun and service oriented. Watch for more details in the future about upcoming meetings and an event in April. Contact TRICIA FERREE or Chad Dierken 502-939-3175 if you are interested in learning more.

WINTER BREAK: School will be closed for Winter Break from Friday, February 18, through Monday, February 21. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 22.
DRESS DOWN DAY RESCHEDULED: On Thursday, February 24, the Environmental Concerns Committee is sponsoring a Dress Down Day. Students may be out of uniform on that day if they bring in at least $3 and follow the directives in the student handbook for Dress Down Day attire. The money raised from Dress Down Day will help purchase one (or possibly two) 2kw solar arrays for Assumption High School. This project was initiated by senior Katherine Hudson who stated, “Adding solar panels is a small step at a local level that will help make the community of Assumption more sustainable. Hopefully, our actions will encourage the broader community to invest in clean energy.”

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group continues to meet each Tuesday morning from 8:30 -9:00 a.m. in our new chapel. This group is more than just prayer; it’s community. It’s a chance for parents to pray for their daughters and their daughters’ friends and time to get to know more Assumption parents. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

On Monday, students had the opportunity to engage in celebrations of love and family for Valentine’s Day. On Tuesday and Thursday, underclasswomen had the opportunity for direction as they sought course registration signatures and seniors were in class meeting for direction on Mission Week and upcoming senior activities.
Next week, during LEAD & Learn Time, all students will be in homeroom on Tuesday when they will receive information from our executive director of mission effectiveness, Mary Ann Steutermann, about how to most effectively engage in Mission Week activities. On Thursday and Friday, students will alternate between homerooms and class meetings. In homeroom, students will receive additional information about our Mission Week keynote speaker, Kristen Geez. In class meetings, students will receive additional information regarding Mission Week and other upcoming spring activities.
