A message from the Deans of Studies – Judy Fieldhouse and Theresa Schuhmann
This time in February each year is always one that we find exciting and energizing while working with our students. As we kicked off the registration process for the 2022-2023 school year this week, we were in class meetings to share the logistics of the registration process, but more importantly, to provide opportunities for students to learn about the wide variety of course options from which they can choose. Helping students chart their pathways as they work to make their academic dreams a reality is our favorite part of our jobs. Your daughter’s class counselor is a knowledgeable resource and invaluable part of this process as well.
Linked here are the instructions that your daughter received to complete the registration process. We hope you will take time to review this process and sit with her as she chooses her courses for next year. Along with the opportunity to talk to her counselor, we will be in study halls for final advising on Monday and Tuesday. We look forward to talking with your daughter!

To keep our families informed of the impact of COVID on our school, we continue reporting our positive COVID cases each week via the Rocket Report.
- This week, (reporting from Friday 2/4/22 up to Thursday 2/10/22); we had 2 positive COVID cases; both students.
- Since the start of this semester, we have had 198 positive COVID cases. 176 were students and 22 were faculty/staff.
Mask Mandate: As we mentioned in our special message sent on Thursday, February 10, AHS will be mask optional for next week. AHS will be moving between being mask optional and mandating masks depending on the circumstances. We will review the situation on a weekly basis and make a determination regarding masks for the following week. To view our entire Healthy at School protocols, please click here.

AP Computer Science A classes have earned Assumption the recognition of 2021 AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award! This honor recognizes the work Assumption is doing to engage more females in computer science.
AP Computer Science Principles class gives students an introduction to Computer Science, including programming, exploring how the internet works, and discussing the impacts of modern technology. In AP Computer Science A students learn object-oriented programming and design using the Java programming language. Both of these courses enable students to earn AP college credit and open a pathway for students to continue studies in college-level STEM and computing courses.
In recent classes, students used code.org‘s App Lab data library to design an app about a topic of their choice.

FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: The Father-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, February 12, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the gym. This dance is open to ALL students – freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We encourage all to attend and dance the night away with their fathers or father figures! Tickets may be purchased at the door the night of the dance for $25. Please enter at the CAC (gym) doors. The dance theme is “Dad, You’re Out of This World” and is space inspired! Guests are invited to dress for the theme, but of course, themed attire is not required. Music will be provided by the band Famous on Friday. In line with our change in mask policy, masks will be optional. Hope to see you there!
WINTER BREAK: School will be closed for Winter Break from Friday, February 18, through Monday, February 21. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 22.

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group continues to meet each Tuesday morning from 8:30 -9:00 a.m. in our new chapel. This group is more than just prayer; it’s community. It’s a chance for parents to pray for their daughters and their daughters’ friends and time to get to know more Assumption parents. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

On Monday and Tuesday, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors were in class meeting where they received direction regarding the course registration process for the 2022-2023 school year. Seniors engaged with the family members in their homerooms on Monday with a session in which they received information about dress code for senior prom and participated in an activity facilitated by their homeroom class officers and Family Council members. On Tuesday, seniors received information for Mission Week based on their selected programming for that week.
Next week during LEAD & Learn Time, students will have the opportunity to engage in celebrations of love and family on Monday for Valentine’s Day. On Tuesday and Thursday, underclasswomen will have the opportunity for direction as they seek course registration signatures and seniors will be in class meeting for direction on Mission Week and upcoming senior activities.

MISSION WEEK: Mission Week is Monday, February 28 – Thursday, March 3. We will begin school each morning one hour later at 9:15 a.m. and dismiss each day at 3:00 p.m. We believe that Mission Week activities are so important that we suspend classes for the week; all students are required to attend and participate in the activities scheduled, both on and off campus. All attendance policies apply during Mission Week–if your daughter is ill and unable to participate on a given day, please call the attendance office as usual. If at all possible, please do not schedule medical appointments for your daughter on days when she will be participating in activities off campus. During Mission Week, before-school supervision will be provided in the cafeteria as usual beginning at 7:15 a.m. each day. After-school supervision will also be provided each day in the cafeteria until 4:30 p.m. as usual. There is no school on Friday, March 4. More details about Mission Week were sent in a Special Message from the Principal email on Monday, February 7. Please be sure to check your email for this important message!
MISSION WEEK PERMISSION SLIPS FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR PARENTS: In the next week, juniors and seniors will be completing detailed permission slips for Mission Week activities. Please plan to sit down with your daughter and her tablet PC to review her Mission Week plans as your electronic signature will be required at the end of the form. Please ask your daughter about this if she does not mention it to you. Junior permission slips are due on February 17, and senior verification signatures are due on March 8.
BLOOM THEATRE PROJECT: Bringing Life Onstage and Offstage through Ministry (BLOOM) is Assumption’s social justice theatre project. This year’s production, titled “Being the Change,” will take place on Friday, February 25, and Saturday, February 26, at 7:00 p.m. The project features six student-written plays based on the Mission Week theme, “Unleash Your Power.” The Advanced Theatre class invites you to experience these original works FREE of charge. General admission. No tickets required. If you or anyone in your party requires assistance or handicap accessibility, please contact DOUG SUMEY.

REMINDERS AND REQUESTS ABOUT MORNING DROP-OFF AND AFTERNOON PICK-UP:
- CARPOOL LANE: The parking lot proctors and parents in the carpool lane would like to remind you that drivers need to pull up as far as possible in the carpool lane before stopping, and that once the vehicle has pulled up as far as possible behind the car in front of it and stops, the student is to get out of the car and then walk along the sidewalk to the entrance of her choice. Please do not stop short so your daughter will be close to her preferred entrance. When you stop short, it causes the carpool lane to stop and traffic to back up on Bardstown Road; it also creates a dangerous situation when the student takes what seems like a long time to get herself and her belongings out of the car and those in line behind the stopped vehicle try to go around the vehicle, and block the flow of traffic in the two-way drive which is used by those who need to drive in the opposite direction of the carpool lane to get to their parking spaces.
- ST. RAPHAEL LOT: Our students who park in the lot that we share with St. Raphael and their parents would like to remind you that students should not be picked up in the St. Raphael parking lot. Over the last several weeks, an increasing number of parents/drivers have been entering the Raphael lot from both the left and the right from Bardstown Road, which makes it hard for the students who park there to leave in the afternoon. Once in the lot, some parents “create” spaces where they park and wait for their daughters, which ends up blocking our student drivers into their spaces. Since student drivers are dismissed first in our staggered dismissal protocol, some of them are having to wait as long as 20 minutes to be able to get out of their spaces or get out of the parking lot, which has caused some of them to be late for medical appointments, jobs, etc. Even when parents pull into empty spaces in the Raphael lot to wait for their daughters, it increases the amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in a parking lot used by young drivers and that already has heavy pedestrian traffic. One parent reported to us that on Monday of this week his daughter was almost hit by a dad as he was navigating the traffic in the Raphael lot prior to stopping to wait for his daughter. If you don’t want to pick up your daughter from the Assumption carpool lane, please use the “Gardiner Lane Shopping Center Option” which has been mentioned in previous Rocket Reports and was shared with parents/guardians during our orientation sessions in August.
We ask our students to treat others with courtesy and compassion and to follow school rules and procedures to keep things running smoothly and safely. Parents and guardians, we ask the same of you.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS) APPLICATIONS: Completed hard copy applications are due by 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, February 24 (before Mission Week) to the Guidance office. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DEADLINE! The application requires both student and parent/guardian signatures. Remember, only sophomores and juniors who attended one of the NHS application informational meetings held in January and who met the GPA and discipline requirements may apply. Any questions? Contact NHS adviser KELLY KIRWAN.
SUMMER ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES: Academic opportunities for the summer have been UPDATED. You can find these on our guidance department page by clicking here: SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES 2022. There are numerous opportunities available with many costing less than $1,000. Programs are grouped according to areas of interest like STEM or Creative Arts/Design or General Summer Pre-College Programs, etc. Applications are due in March and require the assistance of guidance for transcript releases, recommendations, and other documentation. TEST PREP – Attention, Junior Parents: Your daughter received an email this week reminding her of ALBERT, the important test prep tool provided by Assumption. This online test prep program provides practice in each of the section of the ACT and the SAT as well as full length practice tests. Now is a great time to start this prep to achieve her goals for the April 19 National ACT at Assumption High School.
IMPORTANT 2022-2023 REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
- TUITION AND REGISTRATION FEES: Parents or guardians of current freshman, sophomore, or junior students were emailed a letter from Mary Lang announcing our tuition for the 2022-2023 school year last week. This year we have a new electronic system called Blackbaud Tuition Management (formerly Smart Tuition) which will allow you to securely pay the registration fee of $225 and select your tuition payment option online. Paying the registration fee and completing the tuition selection are required to guarantee your daughter’s course selections and allow her to be considered for financial aid and/or scholarships. The registration fee and tuition selection form are due by February 17. Parents should have received an email directly from Blackbaud with directions to set up their account. You may read more about how Assumption will use the Blackbaud Tuition Management in these communications. If you are unable to pay the online $225 registration fee or have other arrangements with our finance office, please contact TAMMY FINCH. If you have any questions about registration, please contact your daughter’s dean or our registrar KATHY FLEISCHER.
- PARENT POWERSCHOOL LOG IN FOR 2022-2023 REGISTRATION: We will continue meeting with freshman, sophomore, and junior students during LEAD & Learn over the next week to prepare for our online registration for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a great time to have a conversation with your daughter about her classes for next year. More detailed information will follow, but please make note that you will need to log into your parent PowerSchool account to register your daughter for classes next year. If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, when you go to the login screen for PowerSchool, just click on the link “Having trouble signing in?” and follow the directions to obtain a forgotten username or forgotten password.
- 2022-2023 COURSE SELECTIONS & DEADLINES: On Monday, February 7, and Tuesday, February 8, our teachers conferenced with all current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors regarding their course selections for the 2022-2023 school year.
