- CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK: Next week we will be celebrating National Catholic Schools Week. This week provides an opportunity for us to appreciate how much Catholic schools have been and continue to be an important part of our lives. On Tuesday, February 1, student representatives will attend the Archdiocesan Mass celebrating Catholic Schools Week. During this special week and always, we thank you for sending your daughters to our Catholic school. At Assumption, we feel blessed to have the opportunity to educate your daughter both academically and spiritually.
- CURRENT FRESHMAN PARENT REGISTRATION INFORMATION NIGHT: Attention, all freshman parents–On Wednesday, February 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, Dean of Studies Theresa Schuhmann will provide information about the registration and course selection process for all freshman parents. We highly recommend that you take advantage of this important informational session in order to assist your daughters in planning their course of study for their sophomore year.
- DRESS DOWN DAY: On Friday, February 4, the Environmental Concerns Committee is sponsoring a Dress Down Day. Students may be out of uniform on that day if they bring in at least $3 and follow the directives in the student handbook for Dress Down Day attire. The money raised from the Dress Down Day will help purchase one (or possibly two) 2 kW solar arrays for Assumption High School. This project was initiated by senior Katherine Hudson who stated, “Adding solar panels is a small step at a local level that will help make the community of Assumption more sustainable. Hopefully, our actions will encourage the broader community to invest in clean energy.”
- 12:30 DISMISSAL DAY: Friday, February 11, will be a 12:30 dismissal day so that faculty and staff can attend a special professional development session on cultural sensitivity in the classroom as part of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative of our strategic plan. After-school supervision will not be provided, so please make arrangements for your daughters to be picked up by 12:45 p.m.

PARENT PRAYER: Our parent prayer group continues to meet each Tuesday morning from 8:30 -9:00 a.m. in our new chapel. This group is more than just prayer; it’s community. It’s a chance for parents to pray for their daughters and their daughters’ friends and time to get to know more Assumption parents. Please park in any open space and enter the school through the main entrance. Please join us for any or all of these opportunities!

During LEAD & Learn time this week, on Monday, students participated in a direction activity to provide information about procedures for learning in case of digital learning/virtual learning in inclement weather. On Tuesday and Thursday, students alternated between class meeting and homeroom. In homeroom, students received direction about making positive health choices around vaping. In class meeting, juniors and seniors heard information about upcoming Mission Week activities and freshmen and sophomores engaged with Erica Lasley, Assumption’s media specialist, who gave each class a “book talk” to expose them to opportunities to expand their minds by reading this semester.
Next week, we will wrap up our dedicated New Year to Love Yourself Even Better series with culminating events on Monday and Tuesday during our extended LEAD & Learn time. These LEAD & Learn times will focus on areas to improve social and emotional health but are particularly targeted toward topics that students have identified as ones that would help them as they continue to navigate the impacts of the pandemic on their learning and social and emotional health. Over the course of the two days, each class will engage in a class bonding opportunity specifically designed for their class and will receive direction in both a session on time management skills and a session with Dr. Eric Baker, TAPI, LCADC, LCSW who will share insights on managing anxiety. Students will also eat with their classes on these days. On Thursday and Friday, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be in class meeting where they will receive direction regarding the course registration process for the 2022-2023 school year, while seniors engage with the family members in their homerooms on Thursday and Friday with Friday focused on planning ahead for end of the year senior activities.

- SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS: Scholarship applications for the 2022-2023 school year are now on our website. Applications are due by midnight via email on March 1, 2022. Please contact Advancement Services Manager JACKIE BLOYD with questions. Scholarship winners will be announced at our end-of-year celebration. You may access the applications through the following link: Scholarships – Assumption High School (ahsrockets.org)
- TUITION AND REGISTRATION FEES: Parents or guardians of current freshman, sophomore, or junior students were emailed a letter from Mary Lang announcing our tuition for the 2022-2023 school year last week. This year we have a new electronic system called Blackbaud Tuition Management (formerly Smart Tuition) which will allow you to securely pay the registration fee of $225 and select your tuition payment option online. Paying the registration fee and completing the tuition selection are required to guarantee your daughter’s course selections and allow her to be considered for financial aid and/or scholarships. The registration fee and tuition selection form are due by February 17. Parents should have received an email directly from Blackbaud with directions to set up their account. You may read more about how Assumption will use the Blackbaud Tuition Management in these communications. If you are unable to pay the online $225 registration fee or have other arrangements with our finance office, please contact TAMMY FINCH. If you have any questions about registration, please contact your daughter’s dean or our registrar KATHY FLEISCHER.
- PARENT POWERSCHOOL LOG IN FOR 2022-2023 REGISTRATION: We will continue meeting with freshman, sophomore, and junior students during LEAD & Learn over the next week to prepare for our online registration for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a great time to have a conversation with your daughter about her classes for next year. More detailed information will follow, but please make note that you will need to log into your parent PowerSchool account to register your daughter for classes next year. If you have forgotten your parent username or password for PowerSchool, when you go to the login screen for PowerSchool, just click on the link “Having trouble signing in?” and follow the directions to obtain a forgotten username or forgotten password.
- 2022-2023 COURSE SELECTIONS & DEADLINES: On Monday, February 7, and Tuesday, February 8, our teachers will be conferencing with all current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors regarding their course selections for the 2022-2023 school year. Please mark your calendars for Friday, February 11, when online registration opens and you may work with your daughter to select her classes, and Thursday, February 17, the date we will collect your daughter’s printed and signed registration form.
- FINANCIAL AID FORM: The financial aid link for 2022-2023 has been added to the school’s website. The due date is January 31, and the form must be submitted online to FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment. FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION LINK. As a reminder, you are required to file every year to receive assistance.
- SPRING DUAL CREDIT NEWS: If you daughter is enrolled in a Spring Dual Credit class (DC PreCalculus, DC Calculus, DC Public Speaking or DC Personal Finance), Mrs. Fieldhouse has been in to visit her class this week to discuss registration and KHEAA scholarship eligibility. You should have completed this JCTC ENROLLMENT AGREEMENT FORM with your daughter for all classes except Personal Finance. She will register for Personal Finance at WKU next week in class. Additionally, she should already be able to see her scholarship disbursement from KHEAA listed as TBA for Spring here: KHEAA HOME. Please ask her about these items and if she has any questions, please have her see Mrs. Fieldhouse during her study or lunch on Monday or Tuesday.
- AP EXAM FEES DUE FEB 28: If your daughter registered to take an AP Exam or submit an AP Portfolio for this spring, she was emailed an invoice on Thursday, January 20, with the amount due. Please check with her about the exams and fees due and contact Kathy.fleischer@ahsrockets.org if you have any questions.
- STANDARDIZED TESTING RESULTS: Your freshman and/or sophomore daughter received her PreACT score and an error analysis worksheet in LEAD & Learn last week. Please ask her to show them to you as well as the goals she has set for herself. She will also be working with her English, math, science, and social studies teachers during the next few weeks on error analysis activities. Juniors who took the PSAT were given their College Board log-in information as well as ACT practice resources to prepare for the APRIL 19 DISTRICT ACT they will take at AHS. Please ask your daughter to show you these resources and ask her about her preparation plan as well as her goals. If you have any questions regarding standardized testing, don’t hesitate to reach out to Judy Fieldhouse or your daughter’s counselor.
- FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE: The Father-Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, February 12, from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in the gym. This dance is open to ALL students— freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We encourage all to attend and dance the night away with their fathers or father figures! Tickets may be purchased in advance during lunches on Monday, February 7 – February 11 for $20, or at the door the night of the dance for $25. The dance theme is “Dad, You’re Out of This World” and is space inspired! Guests are invited to dress for the theme, but of course, themed attire is not required. Music will be provided by the band Famous on Friday. In line with our Healthy at Assumption protocols, masks will be required at this time. Hope to see you there!

SOPHOMORE ACTS SERVICE: Parents of sophomores: Due to a number of agencies who have requested us to delay the start of ACTS one more week, sophomore students will now be visiting their ACTS agencies for the first time on Wednesday, February 9. Please email KATELYN MOORE with any questions and pray for our sophomores as they prepare for their upcoming ACTS experience! A reminder about ACTS uniform pants: Please be sure that your sophomore is prepared for ACTS by having her uniform pants purchased AND embroidered by Shaheens by Wednesday, February 9. Pants are not embroidered in advance of purchase, and embroidery may take a few days, so please do not wait until the last minute. Please be sure to check your daughter’s pants and, if they do not have the Assumption “A”, please take them back to the store to have this added. Uniform pants purchased or passed on from older students with the Assumption crest instead of the “A” are acceptable.

SENIOR ASSEMBLY: Parents of Seniors – On Friday, February 11, seniors will participate in an assembly centered around the award-winning documentary, The Hunting Ground. Current statistics indicate that one in five women will be sexually assaulted in college. The documentary features the stories of several victims of campus sexual assault and shows the emotional aftermath on the victims and their individual journeys for justice. At the assembly, seniors will view the documentary and hear from guest speakers about campus resources, consent, and bystander empowerment. We hope that this program will spark a discussion at home about the prevalence of sexual assaults on college campuses. If you would like to view the documentary with your daughter to foster a follow-up discussion at home, the documentary is available for purchase or rent on Amazon.com: Amazon Link. If you have any questions about this documentary or the assembly planned for seniors, please contact DAWN DEWEESE.
