JANUARY 21, 2022

Welcome to our new Rocket Report! We’ve redesigned our weekly newsletter to make it easier for our parents to read and navigate. While you will still find all the important news that you have come to rely on from the Rocket Report, we have streamlined the format. Each week we will open with a brief special message which will highlight a unique aspect of our school or provide an important update. The special message will be followed by school wide announcements, class specific news, recognition of the good work that our students are doing, and news from the athletic department. We hope this new format better serves our parents and helps us meet our goal of keeping you informed and up to date on the latest happenings here at Assumption.

To keep our families informed of the impact of COVID on our school, we continue reporting our positive COVID cases each week via the Rocket Report.

During LEAD & Learn time this week, on Tuesday and Thursday, students alternated class meeting and homeroom. During that time, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors received direction in homeroom on how to set goals regarding standardized testing and in class meeting heard information to prepare them for the upcoming registration process for the 2022-23 school year. Seniors had an opportunity to engage with each other during class meeting through an activity led by their class president and Mrs. Deweese. In homeroom on Thursday, they participated in a direction activity as Mrs. Scudder led them through a reflection about how to make purposeful choices during their second semester as they work to make it hard to say good-bye to Assumption in May. On Friday, all students were in homeroom for an opportunity to receive some important information about purposeful planning for the summer.
Next week, students will participate in a direction activity to provide information about procedures for learning in case of digital learning/virtual learning in inclement weather. On Tuesday and Thursday, students will alternate between class meeting and homeroom. In homeroom, students will receive direction about making positive health choices and in class meeting will hear information about how to make an academic reset as part of our Love Yourselves Even Better in this New Year programming.

STANDARDIZED TESTING RESULTS: Your freshman and/or sophomore daughter received her PreACT score and an error analysis worksheet in LEAD & Learn this week. Please ask her to show them to you as well as the goals she has set for herself. She will also be working with her English, math, science, and social studies teachers during the next few weeks on error analysis activities. Juniors who took the PSAT were given their College Board log-in information as well as ACT practice resources to prepare for the APRIL 19 DISTRICT ACT they will take at AHS. Please ask your daughter to show you these resources and ask her about her preparation plan as well as her goals. If you have any questions regarding standardized testing, don’t hesitate to reach out to Judy Fieldhouse or your daughter’s counselor.

DRESS DOWN DAY: On Friday, February 4, the Environmental Concerns Committee is sponsoring a Dress Down Day. Students may be out of uniform on that day if they bring in at least $3 and follow the directives in the student handbook for Dress Down Day attire. The money raised from the Dress Down Day will help purchase one (or possibly two) 2 kW solar arrays for Assumption High School. This project was initiated by senior Katherine Hudson who stated, “Adding solar panels is a small step at a local level that will help make the community of Assumption more sustainable. Hopefully our actions will encourage the broader community to invest in clean energy.”
