This week included a number of Assumption celebrations! On Wednesday, students participated in the virtual End of Year Celebration where we reflected upon the year, prayed together, and recognized significant awards, accomplishments, and scholarships. Additionally, the juniors gathered at the Assumption Green to celebrate their unity as a class and their future senior leadership at a beautiful and memorable Junior Ring Blessing Ceremony. On Thursday, we celebrated our State Championship Dance Team! We are so proud of all of our Rockets this year!
As you may have seen in the local news and on social media, there is a current investigation regarding an inappropriate video involving St. X students. Today as part of our morning announcements we took time to talk with your daughters about this situation. We emphasized with them how saddened we are that this occurred and that we pray that all young people strive to always treat everyone with respect and dignity. We reminded the girls that it’s incredibly important not to share or post inappropriate or dangerous messages in chat groups or social media as these are very serious matters that can lead to severe consequences. But, additionally, it’s essential that when something like this does occur, that we do not share something like this video with our friends or continue to share on social media. In cases of sexual assault, it is illegal to do so but also sharing and talking about it can re-victimize those on the video. We also re-emphasized that students should never engage in name-calling or make mean comments on social media to or about anyone. Most importantly, we reminded students to contact an adult if they ever see or hear anything where someone is in danger in any way. We know sometimes seeing or hearing of things like this can be disturbing and hard for students to deal with, so please be sure to have your daughter reach out to her guidance counselor if she needs any help processing the events of this week. Lastly, we continue to remind students daily that we are the community of Assumption. We are home. Let’s continue to be “home” to one another – and to all of those in our extended communities.
COVID NUMBERS: As we did last semester, Assumption will report our number of COVID positive cases and quarantines for any individuals associated with our school on a weekly basis in the Rocket Report. As of yesterday, Assumption had the following reported cases or quarantines this week: (5/14; 5/17; 5/18; 5/19 and 5/20).
- 3 new positive COVID-19 case
- 23 new quarantine cases (all athletic related)
- 45 total positive COVID-19 cases as reported to our local department of health as of January 5, the start of this semester (41 students and 4 faculty/staff)
In addition, we continue to have no known transmissions of COVID here at AHS. As a reminder to our parents, Assumption is required to report positive cases and quarantines of all individuals associated with our school to the State of Kentucky, our local health department as well as the Archdiocese of Louisville.
As mentioned last week, the COVID vaccine is now available for those 12 years and older which opens the door for all of our students to be vaccinated. To encourage our students to receive the vaccine, we are hosting a clinic in conjunction with Norton Healthcare. The clinic, which is open to all Assumption families, will take place on Thursday, June 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the AHS gym. Please watch your email for a link to sign up and stay tuned for more details about incentives for our AHS students who come out and get their shot.

JUNIOR SERVICE HOURS: Parents of the class of 2023 – Juniors are required to complete 15 hours of service for their CST class, and they can complete these hours over the summer. Your daughter must complete the Class of 23 ACTS Form on SharePoint before beginning service. Please encourage your daughter to complete her 15 hours of service during the summer before the school year begins and log her hours on MobileServe as she completes them. Many options for service can be found on MobileServe as well. Your daughter can contact Katelyn Moore at Katelyn.moore@ahsrockets.org with any questions.
COLLEGE ADVISING DATES FOR JUNIORS: Leigh Jackson, college counselor, will be available on several dates at the end of May and into the month of June to meet with current juniors (our rising seniors) and their parents to discuss the college application process. Mrs. Jackson will happily meet with students in either part of the alphabet. She will each be available from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the following dates: Friday, May 28, through Tuesday, June 8. Please contact via email to set up an appointment – LEIGH JACKSON .
INCOMING FRESHMEN – CLASS OF 2025 IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We are so excited for you to start seeing all that your daughter will be experiencing over the next four years through the Rocket Report! To ensure that you have everything you need for your daughter to begin in the fall, we have created a special website for the Class of 2025. On this site you will see a breakdown from month to month with dates to note on your calendar and items that need to be completed or turned in. A few of the time sensitive items which you will want to pay special attention to in for this summer includes SUMMER SEMINAR REGISTRATION, MATH & LANGUAGE TESTING, and SUMMER READING INFORMATION. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact the Main Office at 502-458-9551.
SUMMER READING: Students received their summer reading requirements in English classes this week. These requirements can also be found on the website under Current Parents: https://www.ahsrockets.org/parents/current-parents/summer-reading/. Summer reading is an important component of the English curriculum, and the books read in the summer will be incorporated into the first unit of study in your daughter’s English class next school year. PLEASE NOTE: If a student decides to make any schedule changes over the summer that result in a change in academic level for English, she is required to read the book assigned for that level, which may be a different book and/or a different assignment. She will need to find the correct summer reading assignment on the website.
SHAHEEN’S SUMMER UNIFORM SALE: Shaheen’s will be having a special Uniform Sale June 1-July 3. You are invited to buy uniforms early and receive a 10% off storewide discount. Please consider taking advantage of this special opportunity, especially if your daughter has grown over the past year. Recently, some girls’ skirt lengths have crept up to unacceptable lengths. Rising sophomores will need ACTS pants for next year, and some or your daughters may have decided that they’d like a uniform quarter-zip sweatshirt. The Summer Uniform Sale would be a great time to make these purchases. As a neat and appropriate uniform teaches our students to have pride in their own appearance as well as in their school, we ask for your help by investing in your daughter’s uniform for the 2021-2022 school year.
SCHEDULES FOR 2021 -2022: Your daughter will receive her list of classes for the 2021 – 2022 school year via school email by June 8. Please ask her to share this list with you. If there is a conflict with her schedule or she is interested in changing her classes, the schedule email will have directions on how to schedule a TEAMS meeting with her dean, Mrs. Fieldhouse (last names A – K) or Mrs. Schuhmann (last names L – Z) between June 9 – June 17. Before a schedule change can be finalized, the dean will also need a confirmation email from a parent and any necessary teacher approvals.
UNIFORM/SPIRIT WEAR DONATIONS: Guidance is now accepting uniform/spirit wear donations. Do you have any extra uniform pieces of spirit wear around your house? The Guidance Office uses the donated uniforms for two purposes. The Rocket Parent Network sells donated uniform pieces to raise money for their scholarships. The guidance counselors also use donated uniform pieces to help students in financial need and for whom the replacement of a uniform piece would be cost prohibitive. Donated uniforms and spirit wear may be dropped off to the main office. We ask that you please launder any donated items and bring the items in bags that are tied or sealed.
HAS YOUR DAUGHTER RECEIVED A COVID-19 VACCINATION? If your daughter has been vaccinated against COVID-19, please send a copy of her vaccination record to our school nurse, Laura Burnam, to keep on file in case a question about whether she would need to quarantine should arise.
