Assumption Swim & Dive Heads to State

The Assumption Swim & Dive Region 5 meet got started on Thursday, April 15th with the diving portion of the meet in Versailles, KY. Olivia competed in the event and came in second place. That earned her an automatic qualifying spot in the state meet.
On Friday, the swimmers got their chance to compete. The meet started with a 3rd place finish in the 200- yard Medley Relay, comprised of Raylynn Elder, Drew Penick, Ava Fears and Ella Welch.
Our first individual event was the 200 freestyle. Eden Humphrey came in 2nd place, Liesel Greseth came in 8th place and Elise Lewantowicz came in 12th. Erin Lewantowicz also competed in the event and finished in 21st place. The top 16 finishers score points for the team.
Next up was the 200 Individual Medley. Drew Penick was our top finisher in 4th, Ava Fears finished in 7th, Raylynn Elder was 11th and Lauren Kuprion rounded out our group with a 14th place finish. In the 50 freestyle, Ella Welch took home gold and was only .07 seconds away from the region record in the event. Our other competitors in the event were Anna Welch (11th), Samantha Schaefer (13th) and Landrey Sipes (14th).
After a short break in the action, we got started back up with the 100 butterfly. Ava Fears was our top finisher coming in 4th and Deidra Runkle finished in 8th place. Our other competitors in the event were Brailey Hedgespeth (17th) and Sophia Kukla (20th).
In the 100 freestyle, Ella Welch took home her second 1st place finish of the meet and set the region meet record. She broke her previous record by 0.77 seconds. Liesel Greseth finished in 8th in the event, Anna Welch came in 11th place and Sophia Jarboe rounded out our scoring coming in 15th. Eden Humphrey followed up Ella’s win with an event win of her own by winning the 500 freestyle. Drew Penick finished 5th, Elise Lewantowicz came in 10th and Brailey Hedgespeth finished in 13th.
Next up we have the 2nd of 3 relays. Ava Fears, Anna Welch, Liesel Greseth and Eden Humphrey competed in the 200 Freestyle Relay and finished in 4th place. In our second to last individual event, Raylynn Elder was our top finisher in the 100 backstroke coming in 8th. Sophia Jarboe (12th), Samantha Schaefer (14th) and Morgan Montgomery (21st) also competed in the 100 backstroke.
The final individual event of the night was the 100 breaststroke. Lauren Kuprion (8th), Deidra Runkle (10th), Haley Beierle (16th) and Sophia Kukla (20th) were our four competitors.
In the last event of the night, Liesel Greseth, Drew Penick, Eden Humphrey and Ella Welch took home a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
With all of these results, the below individuals moved on to the state championship meet. The state meet will be held at Blairwood and will be live streamed on khsaa.tv
