Dear Parents/Guardians,
The community of Assumption wishes all of our families a restful and safe spring break as well as a blessed Easter. Director of Campus Ministry Mary Ann Steutermann shares with us this Easter prayer:
Good and gracious God,
We praise you and thank you for the gift of new life in the Risen Jesus. May we be like the women at the empty tomb and the disciples on the road to Emmaus who welcome Christ into our homes and hearts even when we are confused or afraid. Help us to be open to the Paschal Mystery at work in our own lives so that we may truly be people of the Resurrection.
Amen.
COVID NUMBERS: As we did last semester, Assumption will report our number of COVID positive cases and quarantines for any individuals associated with our school on a weekly basis in the Rocket Report. As of yesterday, Assumption’s COVID–19 numbers for this week are: (3/19; 3/22; 3/23; and 3/24)
- 3 new positive COVID-19 cases (all students)
- 0 new quarantine cases
- 36 total positive COVID-19 cases as reported to our local department of health as of January 5, the start of this semester (32 students and 4 faculty/staff)
It’s important to note that there have been no known transmissions of COVID here at AHS. As a reminder to our parents, Assumption is required to report positive cases and quarantines of all individuals associated with our school to the State of Kentucky, our local health department as well as the Archdiocese of Louisville.
As has been mentioned in prior Rocket Reports, the State of Kentucky discourages all out-of-state leisure travel until further notice. If an individual does engage in out-of-state leisure travel, they are urged to voluntarily self-quarantine for 14 days when they return to Kentucky. While the CDC offers options for a shorter quarantine period, our local department of health still recommends a 14-day period of self- quarantine for out of state leisure travel. In line with the state’s travel advisory, we strongly discourage out-of-state leisure travel, however, we also realize that Assumption High School cannot make choices for families. With that in mind, we ask parents to quarantine their daughter after out-of-state leisure travel and to notify out attendance clerk, Gail King at 271-2599, in the event that their daughter will quarantine along with the date their daughter intends to return to school in person.
As with all activities that take place outside of our school, we trust our parents and students to remain vigilant and follow all COVID health and safety protocols such as frequent hand washing, wearing a mask, and practicing social distancing. In this way, we can reduce the risk of bringing COVID into our building and spreading it to our school community.
In addition, and in line with our continuing obligation to our local health department as well as the Archdiocese of Louisville, parents are asked to report any positive cases or close contact quarantines for their daughters that occur over spring break to our school nurse, Laura Burnam, by leaving a message at 271-2507.
As always, we remain grateful for your support and commitment of Assumption and to the safety of our entire community.

LETTERS FROM COLLEGES: Attention, senior parents! Please have your senior daughters submit ALL letters received from colleges regarding admissions decisions, scholarship offers, and admission to special programs and honors colleges to the Guidance Office. The majority of colleges DO NOT provide this information directly to high schools, so your daughter is often our only source of information about this. Her timely sharing of this information is vital to the Senior Honors Celebration as we work to make sure we have all the correct information to celebrate your daughter and the Class of 2021. These letters can be hard copies, faxes, or scanned copies and can be emailed directly to COLLEGE.LETTERS@ahsrockets.org. We ask that students submit all of this information by Thursday, March 25.
AP EXAMS: All students, whether virtual or hybrid, who have signed up to take an AP exam are scheduled to take the paper and pencil exam May 3 – May 17 at Highland Hall. If a student is on quarantine or unable to make this scheduled date due to illness, College Board has also scheduled two additional weeks of exam administration windows for students unable to test on the original dates. Your daughter’s AP teachers are keeping her informed, and full information can be found here: AP Test Information for 2021 Please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE if you have any questions.
NATIONAL ACT FOR JUNIORS: All juniors received an email from Kathy.Fleischer@ahsrockets.org on Monday of this week with instructions on how to make sure her MyACT account is properly set up to be able to see results from the April 13th test. Mrs. Fieldhouse also delivered the Taking the ACT booklet to all in person students during HR this week and via email to all virtual students. Please ask your daughter if she has taken care of this task. The National ACT will be at Assumption from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Just like in October, there is no makeup date for this ACT at AHS, no signup is needed on the part of each family, and this test fee is covered by your tuition dollars. Please encourage your daughter to use the test prep program ALBERT provided by AHS for practice over these next few weeks to help her achieve her best score. This score can be sent to colleges and universities and used for admission and scholarship purposes. Please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE if you have any questions.
NHS SELECTION DECISIONS: The NHS Council at Assumption has been reviewing student applications for selection in the Assumption Chapter of the National Honor Society. Initially, it was communicated that applicants would receive a letter of decision via mail by Spring Break. However, the process is taking more time than anticipated. Students will be notified after Spring Break. Thank you for your patience and flexibility. Any questions? Email KELLY KIRWAN.
SENIOR RETREAT – Last Call! Did your daughter miss out on their opportunity to attend an in-person senior retreat? We have great news for you! We will be offering one virtual senior retreat that will be taking place on Tuesday, April 13, will be a LEAD & Learn day. PARENTS OF JUNIORS: UPDATED INFORMATION ON CELEBRATING THE CLASS OF 2022 THIS SPRING: Junior year traditionally includes some special rites of passage for each class: junior prom and the junior ring ceremony. As you are well aware, circumstances this year are unusual and present challenges to celebrating these traditional events. We want to assure you, however, that we are committed to marking these special milestones for the Class of 2022 and have been working diligently on details for these junior events. It has been challenging because we do not know what the state and local guidelines will look like in April and May as compared to today. That said, we also understand the importance of providing as much information as possible so you and your daughter can plan ahead. Of course, as has been the case throughout this unusual school year, plans for in-person events/activities could be subject to change depending on guidance and/or directives from state/local department of health. And, as always, our top priority is the health and safety of our students and their families as we work to minimize exposure and the risk of quarantining for all. With that in mind, although these traditional events must look different, we have developed a plan that focuses on the heart of what each event represents to our juniors as they prepare to become the leaders of our school. As always, we appreciate your support as we work to celebrate each of our 245 juniors in this special class under unusual circumstances.
- JUNIOR “MASK”ERADE: Traditionally, the junior prom provides an opportunity for the juniors to work together to celebrate their class and each other, and that is something we can do this year with a bit of a different spin! Our junior class leaders have recognized that it is the perfect year for a “Mask”erade. On Saturday, April 24, the junior class will host a Junior “Mask”erade for the class of 2022 at the Assumption Green. To facilitate our Healthy at Assumption protocols and approach to this event, juniors will sign up for a staggered arrival in small groups beginning at 7:50 p.m. with the “mask”erade ending at 10:00 p.m. and will stay within their small groups throughout the experience. Tickets for the event will be purchased in advance and will be $10 per junior. This year only juniors will be able to attend. Guests will not be permitted. A virtual “mask”erade will also be offered alongside the in-person event. Students will receive information about the virtual event, dance rules and expectations, ticket sales, and sign up via class meetings, email and announcements after spring break. We look forward to safely dancing the night away with the Class of 2022!
- JUNIOR RING BLESSING CEREMOMY: In order to celebrate the class of 2022 as they symbolically assume the leadership the school as they receive senior rings, we will celebrate a Junior Ring Blessing Ceremony during our LEAD & Learn Wednesday activities on Wednesday, May 19. Details about the time of the event will be shared as we get closer to May 19. Juniors will be invited to campus to celebrate the event together as a class. Due to event distancing requirements and limited capacity in the gym, only students will be able to attend the event in-person; however, we will live-stream the event for those who would prefer to participate virtually and for parents/guardians and family to view.
HAS YOUR DAUGHTER RECEIVED A COVID-19 VACCINATION? A number of our students have been able to receive a COVID-19 vaccination because of their jobs or medical conditions. If your daughter has been vaccinated against COVID-19, please send a copy of her vaccination record to our school nurse, Laura Burnam, to keep on file in case a question about whether she would need to quarantine should arise.
SCHOOL PICTURES FOR PINK COHORT/SCHOOL PICTURE RE-TAKES: If your daughter needed to get her school picture taken or wanted a re-take and was unable to come school last week during the scheduled time on our LEAD & Learn schedule, then you will need to contact BIG photo at 502-585-3103 to arrange a time to go to their studio located at 640 S. Fourth Street to have a portrait taken. This will need to be done by Tuesday, April 6. Any questions, please contact KATIE CULVER.

Dr. Jones is professor, graduate director, and chair of the Pan-African Studies Department. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 14, at 3:00 p.m. and will last approximately one hour.
