SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND PRINCIPAL – GRADUATION DETAILS

July 15, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians of Graduating Seniors,

We are excited to share with you the details about the Class of 2020 Graduation on Saturday, July 25.  Please carefully review all of the information below.

PRE-RECORDED GRADUATION CEREMONY:  The day will begin with a pre-recorded graduation ceremony at 9:00 a.m. to honor the Class of 2020.  The video ceremony will premiere live on Assumption’s Facebook page and will also be available for viewing at a later time.  The video will last no more than 30 minutes.

GRADUATION EXPERIENCE ON CAMPUS: We are excited to provide each graduate and her family not just an opportunity to receive her diploma at Assumption but also a “graduation walk” experience in the building. Each graduate will walk with her family to receive the graduation program, be greeted by faculty and staff for one last walk down the first floor hallway, receive two special gifts from the faculty, staff, and alumnae association, travel through the connector to the gym to receive her graduation rose, have a family picture taken, and finally cross the stage to receive her diploma cover (see attached map for an outline of the “graduation walk”). Each graduate will also have her picture officially taken by BIG Photo which will be available for a complimentary download. We will follow up after graduation with a link to the photographs.

ASSIGNED ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE TIME AND CONFIRMATION:  Each graduate may bring family members with them. We highly encourage this be limited to immediate family but no more than 9 family members will be admitted with each senior (for a total party number of 10). For the convenience of extended family and friends, we will be livestreaming the receiving of the diploma portion of the graduation experience which will be available on the Assumption Facebook Main Page on graduation day. For efficiency, it is essential that graduates and family members arrive to campus at their assigned time designated below and leave campus immediately at the end of the graduation experience. For everyone’s health and safety, graduates and families may not congregate with other graduates and families on campus.

Please complete this short survey to let us know if your daughter WILL or WILL NOT be attending graduation at Assumption on July 25: Graduation Survey. Students who are not able to attend will be contacted after graduation about pick-up of graduation items.

GRADUATE ATTIRE: To receive their diplomas, graduating seniors should arrive at Assumption fully dressed in their graduation gowns with maroon stoles and caps with tassels. Please note: graduation gowns are made of fairly thin white fabric that is easily seen through. From experience, we know that a solid white dress with little to no pattern looks best under the graduation gown.  Seniors should also wear any honor cords that they have already received (McAuley Scholars, AP Capstone, English, Music). The following honor cords will be distributed at graduation:  National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Beta Club, Tri M, Rho Kappa, and Speech and Debate.

HEALTH AND SAFETY:  For the safety of all graduates, guests, faculty, staff and administration, all graduates and family members must wear a mask and have their temperatures taken at the door.  Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will not be admitted. Hand-sanitizer will also be available upon entrance and exit.  A graduate and her family must stay together during the entire graduation experience and abide by the social distancing markers and instructions that will be given by staff.

PARKING AND CHECK-IN:  Graduates and family members should plan to arrive together and park on the St. Raphael side of AHS (see attached map). Check-in will take place at the Arts and Sciences entrance. There will be tents available in the Arts & Sciences parking lot to wait for check-in. Check-In may only occur once all members of a graduate’s party are present. Please plan to arrive together during your allotted 15-minute window assigned time. Each graduate’s entire graduation party will enter as a group and stay together throughout the time in the building.  At check-in, the graduate will confirm her full formal name and then begin her celebratory walk through the first floor of the building to her official graduation in the gym!

We cannot wait to finally celebrate the amazing Class of 2020.  We look forward to seeing you all on July 25th…Hand Over Heart!

Sincerely,

Mary Lang                 Martha Tedesco
