Carpool, Parking Procedures & Traffic Flow

Assumption students come from over 55 different zip codes which means finding a ride to and from school might be easier than you think. Assumption utilizes a system called CarpooltoSchool to help link our families together.

Carpool Procedures and Traffic Flow 2023-2024

Dropping off in the morning

  • BASIC CARPOOL PROCEDURE: enter from Bardstown Road via the two-way drive and pull up as far as possible in the carpool line before stopping; when vehicle stops, student(s) exit the vehicle; vehicle remains in the carpool line and continues on to the exit onto Tyler Lane
  • prior to 7:40 a.m. (8:40 on 9:15 Schedule days) , cars may stop along the two-way drive near the entrance to the Arts and Sciences wing or the CAC to drop off students if they are coming in for a before school meeting that will be held close to those entrances; students arriving before 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on 9:15 days) must report to the cafeteria for before-school supervision; the main entrance is the one closest to the cafeteria
  • from 7:40 to 8:15 (8:40-9:15 on 9:15 Schedule days) , drivers must pull up as far as possible in the carpool lane before stopping to let students out; students may enter the building via one of four entrances: main entrance, CAC entrance, Arts and Sciences Wing entrance, theater entrance.
  • when exiting the campus onto Tyler Lane, drivers may want to avoid the traffic at the light by turning left onto Tyler Lane; they can then go down a block and turn either way onto Eleanor Avenue, go a block or two, and then turn east to get back to Bardstown Road without waiting for the light on Tyler Lane
  • none of our parking lots are to be used as a drop-off area as this presents a safety hazard both for the students and/or staff walking through the parking lot and for those who are trying to park there
  • carpool drivers need to watch for pedestrians who will be crossing the driveway to get from the parking lots tothe school buildings
  • take care of long conversations, lunch money, permission slips, and so on before you get to campus
  • if you need to switch drivers or the student needs to get something out of the trunk , please arrive prior to 7:40/8:40 so you can stop without significantly delaying traffic and causing a back-up onto Bardstown Road

Picking up in the afternoon

  • BASIC CARPOOL PROCEDURE: enter from Bardstown Road via the two-way drive and pull up as far as possible in the carpool line before stopping; when all passengers are in the vehicle, the driver may very carefully pull out of the carpool line and continue on via the two-way drive to the exit onto Tyler Lane; cars in the carpool lane move up as cars exit
  • those arriving to pick up students prior to 3:15 need to follow the same procedure as for morning drop-off: pull up as far as possible in the carpool lane before stopping to wait; students will have to walk along the line of stopped cars all along the buildings to look for the car
  • to alleviate traffic congestion in the afternoon, we stagger parking lot dismissal, allowing our student drivers who park on campus to leave first; once the student parking lot is emptied, parents/others picking up students in the carpool lane may exit the campus
  • it is strongly recommended that carpool drivers do not arrive prior to 3:10 to pick students up, and they may even want to come at 3:15 or 3:20–it takes students a few minutes to get out of the building anyway, and it takes 5-7 minutes for the student parking lot to empty and those is the carpool line to start moving
  • at dismissal, students may exit via the outside door of their choice ; after the dismissal bell rings at 3:00 p.m. and students can use their cell phones, you may want to text her to let her know your location if you are waiting in the carpool line, so she will know where to look for you
  • once the car has all its students, the driver may cautiously pull out of the line of waiting cars and proceed to the exit; those still in line pull up as far as possible behind the car ahead of them
  • since none of our parking lots is designated as a pick-up area, drivers may not pull into a lot/parking space and stop and wait for students until after 3:15 when the lots have cleared
  • the small parking lot near the entrance to the Arts and Sciences building is for faculty/staff parking; drivers should not use it as a waiting spot or block the entrance/exit for this lot
  • drivers should not wait for students in parking lots of area businesses or along Tyler Lane –this will inconvenience our neighbors and violate our agreement with the Planning and Zoning Commission
  • students remaining in the building after 3:15 report to the cafeteria unless they are involved in a supervised activity; students should be picked up from after-school supervision at the main entrance
