Our Catholic Mercy Identity

Catholic identity is not simply something we teach, it is something we live every day at Assumption. Grounded in the Sisters of Mercy tradition, our faith is visible in our relationships, our leadership, our service, and our commitment to forming confident young women who use their gifts for the good of the world.

At Assumption, students are known, loved, challenged, and called higher. We educate the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—so that our graduates leave academically prepared, spiritually grounded, and ready to lead with compassion and courage.

Our Mercy Heritage

The Foundation of Who We Are

Founded in 1831 by Catherine McAuley, the Sisters of Mercy believed deeply in the dignity of every person and the transformative power of education, especially for young women. Catherine’s vision was rooted in the Gospel and boldly lived through compassion in action, practical service, and fearless advocacy for those most in need. That same Mercy spirit continues to guide Assumption today. As a Mercy school, we are called to:

  • Respond to the needs of others with empathy, humility, and courage
  • Educate young women to think critically, act justly, and lead faithfully
  • Put faith into action through service, reflection, and community life

Mercy is not only our heritage, it is our way forward.

Mercy in Action at Assumption

Faith at Assumption is woven into the rhythm of daily life. Students encounter God not only in theology classrooms, but in conversations, retreats, service experiences, leadership opportunities, and moments of reflection across campus.

Prayer & Worship

Prayer anchors our community. From daily prayer and liturgical celebrations to retreats and sacramental opportunities, students are invited to pause, reflect, and grow in relationship with God.

Service & Outreach

In the Mercy tradition, service is essential. Assumption students are encouraged to recognize Christ in others and respond to real needs through meaningful service experiences, locally and beyond. These opportunities challenge students to move beyond awareness toward action and lifelong commitment to justice.

Community & Belonging

At Assumption, community matters. Grounded in Catholic values, we are a place where relationships are prioritized, voices are valued, and students are supported as they grow. Each member of our community is created in the image and likeness of God, and every student belongs here.

Forming Women of Faith, Leadership, and Purpose

As an all-girls Mercy school, Assumption is deeply committed to the formation of young women who are confident, compassionate, and courageous. Students are encouraged to lead with integrity, speak with conviction, and serve with humility. Through their Assumption experience, students are challenged to:

Faith at Assumption extends beyond our campus walls. Guided by the mission of the Sisters of Mercy, students are invited to grow in awareness, compassion, and action around the Mercy Critical Concerns, which challenge us to respond faithfully to the needs of our world:

These concerns help students understand how faith calls them to engage thoughtfully and responsibly with the world around them.
