This camp will introduce beginners to the fundamentals of shooting the bow, concentrating on proper form and technique. Intermediate archers will review instruction and proper execution of the shot. Scoring and tournament regulations will be covered, along with additional shooting aids that are tournament legal.
Learn the fundamentals of basketball while running specific drills that will enhance your overall ability. We will have competitions and play games with current Assumption players who will be helping lead the camp.
Come join the Assumption cheerleaders for two days of fun-filled cheerleading! You will learn proper technique and fundamentals of high school cheerleading from the AHS varsity cheerleaders and coaching staff. The two days will be broken down into blocks of cheer, dance, jumps, and stunts!
Assumption cross country has a tradition of excellence, including six state championships and three Nike Cross Country National Championship berths! The camp is led by Head Coach Barry Haworth and is a great way to prepare for the upcoming cross-country season. Campers will do daily runs, and Coach Haworth will help the girls learn effective injury prevention, stretching routines, and most importantly, how to make running fun!
Elite Field Hockey
Elite camp focuses on the experienced player, particularly those who are trying out for high school programs. Assumption incoming freshmen are encouraged to attend, but the camp is open to any student from any school. Players should have either club experience or multiple years of league play. Questions can be directed to Coach Schaefer.
Assumption High School Field Hockey is the premier program in Kentucky, with 10 state championships. Join the award-winning coaching staff as they teach the fundamentals of field hockey to girls in grades 2-9 and continue the fundamentals, yet provide a challenging camp experience for older, more experienced players under the lights. Each day campers will participate in small games. Campers will be grouped per age and experience to maximize their individual learning experience. Come see why we are such an amazing program!
Assumption’s lacrosse camp is designed to teach and develop the fundamental skills of the game: throwing, catching, cradling, shooting, feeding, ground balls, and offensive and defensive skills while focusing on improving participants’ level of confidence. Our camp offers players the opportunity to improve their stick skills and conceptual understanding of the game through challenging drills, skill building activities, and full-field scrimmages. The camp staff includes the AHS coaching staff, along with varsity and rising JV players.
The Assumption High School soccer camp is designed for young players looking to develop their fundamental skills and grow their love for the game. Our goal is to instill the joy of the game in each camper by focusing on sound technical development in a fun and inclusive environment.
The Assumption High School advanced soccer camp is designed to further player development and introduce campers to higher levels of technical and tactical training. Our goal is to prepare campers to play at the high school level, by focusing on team concepts.
The Rocket Softball Camp will be led by Head Coach Lisa Pinkston and her staff. This fast paced, action packed clinic will include all aspects of the game. Players will be grouped by age and skill level. Offense – all areas of offense will be covered: hitting for power, slapping and bunting. Defense – players will be able to choose a position for improvement (including pitchers and catchers). Base running – players will learn proper base running technique including diving and sliding. Competitive games and daily challenges will be played to build confidence! Our camp staff will include AHS assistant softball coaches as well as former college softball players to provide a fun learning environment for young players to improve!
This camp, led by 20-time state champion Coach Ron Kordes, will offer instruction in basic and intermediate skills of volleyball. Campers will be grouped per ability to maximize their individual learning experience. Attention will be directed to playing strategies, physical and jump training, teamwork, leadership, and having fun!
Affective Skills – Building a Positive Self-image for Girls
During these two fun-filled sessions, girls will have the opportunity to spend time with their peers doing activities, making crafts, role-playing, singing, dancing, and learning one of the most important life lessons: that she is a valuable person, she has dignity and worth, and what she does makes a difference. In this camp we will focus on building self-esteem and helping young girls create and maintain a positive body image! Come and join us as we learn a little more about ourselves and each other. Bonus: each camper will receive a patch which can be placed on the back of their sash or tunic if they are a member of Daisy Scouts, Brownies, or Girl Scouts. However, you are NOT required to be a member of a Girl Scout organization to attend. Peanut-free snacks will be served during each session. Special Note – If your daughter attended the camp “Amazing…Just the Way You Are” or Affective Skills in the past, this camp will NOT be the exact same lessons/instruction/activities, however many of the same concepts will be covered.
AHS: Ancient Heroic Stories
This camp is not to be myth-ed! Students spend a week exploring and interacting with the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece. Their journey also connects beloved modern characters like Rey, Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson to the ancient heroes who inspired their adventures. By the end of camp, students will increase their understanding of classical mythology and its echoes today. The camp culminates in a symposium that highlights students’ interpretations of myth through visual and performing arts.
Do not throw away your "shot"! Students take a deep dive into Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton, drawing on English and Social Studies to explore what makes the script a smash hit. From poetic devices to primary sources, students will interact with language and harness their own creative voice as they learn how history translates from page to stage. Ready your quills, powder your wigs, brush up your lip-syncing skills, and buckle up: this camp is "Non-Stop."
In this introductory baking camps, students will learn the proper way to measure and prepare ingredients. Campers will be given the opportunity to make a range of baked goods, including cookies, brownies, and other treats. At the end of each day, we will have time to taste our work. Students will leave this camp with the ability to go home and bake on their own.
Best Baker in America
Do you love to watch baking shows? Would you like to learn some of the techniques from those shows? In this four-day camp, you will learn how to create a range of baked goods. We’ll have a different theme each day, and you will learn the skills needed for baking each item. You will then bake the treats yourself with the help of an experienced baker. We’ll have time at the end of each day to taste what we make! At the end of the four-day camp, you’ll be a master baker!
Come play in the dirt! Campers will explore the pottery wheel and a variety of hand-building techniques while creating functional and sculptural art. Projects will include functional cups, plates and bowls as well as imaginative or realistic animal sculptures. Campers should not wear “good” clothes as they are likely to get a little dirty. They may want to bring an old shirt or tee-shirt to wear over their clothes. **Clay pieces will be available for pick up in the front office after June 22 (the following Thursday).
In this camp students will learn the skills needed to decorate beautiful desserts. The class will cover basic piping and decorating skills, as well as more advanced decorating, such as how to make buttercream flowers. A variety of techniques will be covered over the four-day camp, leaving the campers will skills to decorate desserts for years to come.
Culinary Camp I
A unique opportunity to cook along with Assumption High School's own Chef for three days. Learn basic culinary skills as we prepare an exciting and delicious meal each day. Entice your taste buds with Italian flare when we prepare an Italian meal from scratch. Hang on to your sombrero as we turn up the heat and south to the border to cook some authentic Hispanic Cuisine.
Culinary Camp II Advanced (Must have attended Culinary Camp I to attend this camp)
A unique opportunity to cook with Assumption High School's own Chef for three days. Explore a higher level of culinary skills as we prepare exciting and delicious meals each day. Entice your taste buds with the tastes of Thailand as we prepare an authentic Thai meal from scratch. Bring your sense of adventure as we explore the Open Seas with a Seafood lover's palate. Venture to the Caribbean Islands as we turn on the heat with some Authentic Latin Cuisine.
In this camp students will learn fun ways to decorate a variety of desserts. Campers will be provided with a plethora of materials to turn desserts into animals, monsters, and more. At the end of this four-day camp, students will be able to creatively decorate on their own!
This fun and fast paced camp introduces young actors to the wide-open world of drama. Instructors will lead students in warm-ups, creative drama activities, and basic acting exercises that will help students to feel confident using their voices, bodies, and imaginations as instruments for creative expression. This camp will end with a culminating showcase.
English in the Middle – Review of grammar, vocabulary, writing, and literary skills for middle school students
Welcome to a great summer review of proper punctuation, Parts of Speech, writing techniques, and vocabulary building skills. This camp will also help students practice margin notes when reading a class novel or short story. It is a great resource to help students in grades 7 and 8 to keep their English skills sharp during the summer months. English class can be boring, but this is sure to be a fun and interactive class!
French Language and Cultures
Explore your inner French girl! Fun, frolic, and fashion in a relaxed casual French-y setting. You will make crepes, compare French and American picnics, watch YouTube videos about French culture and explore the fashion world of France. No prior knowledge of French is required! If you are interested in exploring the fashion, foods, and culture of the French-speaking world then this camp is for you! Vive la France!
Learn how to tap into your leadership potential at this engaging camp! Campers will focus on the characteristics they bring to leadership and figure out how to lead using their strengths. Campers will leave equipped with leadership skills and strategies which will empower them to use their voices to lead their communities in positive directions. Assumption student leaders will help staff this camp; campers will be grouped according to age.
Math Fun – Comprehension of core concepts using hands on activities
Welcome to our summer math camp offered to all 4th and 5th grade students. We will cover key core concepts such as factors, primes, multiples, number sense, place value, rounding, decimal operations, fractions, word problems, money and more. Using manipulatives, real life connections, and STEM related projects, we will enhance the general comprehension of core concepts essential to 4th and 5th grade math success. You can COUNT on your student having a fun time while practicing math skills!
This summer camp offers young singers and actors the chance to polish their musical theatre skills. Students will learn the ins and outs of choosing the right music, auditioning skills, beginning vocal technique, exploring choreography, and “selling” the song. The class will be taught by Jan Tedesco, musical director for Assumption's fall Broadway productions.
Photos and Photoshop
Have you ever wanted to learn how to clean up your photos, change colors, backgrounds, remove images, or combine several shots into one? This is the camp for you! We will use pictures you have already taken on phones or digital cameras, and work with Photoshop, the premier image-editing software on the market. There will be opportunities to take new photographs around the campus as well. All students will need their own smartphones and/or digital cameras, the USB cable for the device and a portable thumb/flash drive for storage.
Come and learn some creative ideas for scrapbooking memories. Discover techniques to create interesting page layout designs, learn some fun photography tips, and how to make a digital story book. Campers will be creating three (3) scrapbook projects during this camp including a traditional scrapbook. Each camper will be given a personal scrapbook supply box to take home at the end of the week. All supplies will be provided, but participants will need to bring their own pictures for projects each day. No scrapbooking experience necessary.
We’re All Wonders
Based on the popular book Wonder, by R. J. Palacio, this camp will explore how we treat one another, judgments we make about others, and what it means to be kind. We will do a variety of activities with Mr. Browne’s precepts, including writing and illustrating some of our own. Each day of camp will include some time to investigate how each of us is “a wonder”. We’ll end the week watching the movie.
Campers will work on breathing techniques for singing, sight reading, and unison to two-part choral pieces. We will end camp with a small concert on the last day.
