Taylor Allen ’18 Named Wendy's Heisman Finalist

As a starting player on Assumption's varsity basketball team as well as in track and field, Taylor has shown her commitment to excellence both athletically and academically. She holds a 3.98 GPA and is a peer math tutor, a member of Assumption's Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, secretary for the Future Business Leaders of America, officer of the Varsity Club, and a member of the Operation Smile Club. Taylor is also the president of the company she and her classmates created in their Applied Economics class. In addition, Taylor is an outstanding leader as the varsity basketball team captain and was a leading scorer last season. “I want to be the best leader and role model I can for the underclass women,” Taylor shared. ”I want to set a good example for them to follow next year when I am no longer here.”
Taylor excels on the track and field team as well, competing at the Kentucky State Track Meet since her freshman year and the New Balance National Outdoors Meet for three consecutive years. ”I am hoping to continue my career in track and field at the collegiate level next year,” she added.
Taylor finds success in her belief to be positive and determined in the face of adversity. ”I have struggled with multiple shoulder and lower leg injuries during my four years at Assumption. I have daily pain, but I know it will never stop me,” she expressed. ”I had chances to give in and quit just because times were tough, but I never did. I believe that is why I have been successful both academically and athletically. When given the opportunity to quit, I decided to work harder,” she said. ”The adversity I have faced has provided me with life long lessons,” she continued. ”There will always be a bump in the road or something keeping me from my true potential. Although, I must face these obstacles with positivity and know that I will get through each and every one.”
