12 Assumption Juniors Named Governor's Scholors

April 17, 2008 – Louisville, KY – Twelve Assumption High School juniors have been selected to participate in the 2008 Governor’s Scholars Program. They are Elizabeth Beilman, Melanie Brumleve, Hannah Bryant, Ellen Daly, Ellen Deatrick, Abby Fieldhouse, Jessica McKim, Sidney Noland, Rina Perlin, Layn Porta, Lauren Speaker, and Amy Stamon.
The girls, who began the application process in November, were judged in four categories. The first, academic achievement, included course work, grade point average, and test scores. The second, student profiles, included student honors, talents, work experience, and extracurricular activities. The third and fourth categories required a student essay and teacher recommendations.

Assumption High School was founded in 1955 by the Sisters of Mercy. Located at 2170 Tyler Lane, the school brings almost 1,000 students together, grades 9-12, in a Catholic environment. Assumption is one of only 41 schools in the nation and the only all-girls school in Louisville to receive the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence three times.
