April 18, 2008 – Louisville, KY – Assumption High School is one of 60 schools from 14 states that will be recognized June 30 for making an exemplary commitment to comprehensive school counseling programs, the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) announced today. The schools, which reach across the K-12 spectrum, will receive the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation during a special ceremony at ASCA’s annual conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The RAMP designation, awarded to schools that align with the criteria set in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment. Over 180 schools have been designated as RAMP since the program’s inception of the program in 2003. Eric Sparks, ASCA’s 2007-08 president, said Assumption High School is to be commended for its dedication to serving all students and demonstrating how effective school counseling programs can make a difference in students’ lives. “All of this year’s RAMP honorees have shown their commitment to students and the school counseling profession,” said Sparks, the Director of School Counseling in Wake County Public Schools. “This designation distinguishes these schools and encourages school counselors nationwide to continue to strive for success.” RAMP applications are reviewed once a year by a panel of school counseling professionals and the designation is valid for three years.
