WebQuest: Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame

The Task

Congratulations! You and your partners have been elected to the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame Selection Committee. You have the following tasks ahead of you:

  • research rock and roll topics in the AHS Media Center
  • locate and review one book in the AHS media center on history of rock and roll
  • create a timeline of events spanning at least three decades of rock and roll history
  • identify previous Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductees
  • select a Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee for next year
  • discuss reasons for your selection

The Background

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum is located in Cleveland, Ohio. Visitors enjoy interactive exhibits, various artifacts, video clips, permanent exhibits, and rotating exhibits. Programs at the museum include concerts, lectures, and other related events. Check out this web site to read about the history of the museum: http://www.rockhall.com/museum/about.asp?id=2021

"The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors the legendary performers, producers, songwriters, disc jockeys and others who have made rock and roll the force in our culture that it is. For a decade and a half, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has been nominating and electing those figures, and honoring them at an annual ceremony that has become one of the most celebrated events of the year, and certainly one of the hottest tickets in rock" (http://www.rockhall.com/hof/).

“Once inducted, the artists are further honored when they are featured in the Museum's Hall of Fame exhibit, which includes a computerized "juke box" containing virtually every song of every performer inductee; etched-glass signatures of the inductees; a film on three huge screens recounting their careers and music; and a display of artifacts from the current year's inductees” (http://www.rockhall.com/hof/).

Our purpose here is threefold: to research the history of Rock and Roll, identify inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and select a new inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In this way, we will start to serve as members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Selection Committee by researching museum history and creating history of our own!

The Process

  1. Arrange for you and your partners to visit the AHS media center and browse the books on the history of rock and roll. Select one book on the history of rock and roll. List 10 key points of the book in a bulleted list using Microsoft Word.
  2. Create a timeline of the history of rock and roll. Draw a timeline of events that spans at least three decades. You may find a timeline on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum web site at http://www.rockhall.com/timeline/
  3. Next, research online articles and/or books to review previous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Read about previous inductees. Then, create a top ten list of past inductees that your group believes to be the most influential. Create your top ten list in Word and print out a copy.
  4. Then, select a new inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Create an invitation that you could send to the new inductee inviting them to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and explaining why they were chosen. Invitation can be made by hand or on the computer.
