CALENDAR NOTES:
- WALK FOR ASSUMPTION: The Walk for Assumption will be held on Friday, September 27. Arrival time for the Walk is 9:05 a.m., and we will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. The building will not open until 8:15 a.m., and after-school supervision will not be provided on this day. Please make arrangements for your daughter to be dropped off after 8:15 a.m. and picked up by 12:00 p.m.
- SENIOR PARENTS – COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION NIGHT: On Monday, September 23, we are hosting a College Financial Aid Information Night beginning at 6:30 p.m. in our theater for our seniors and their parents. Lindsay Driskell, director of Financial Aid at Jefferson Community and Technical College, will be our guest speaker and will walk seniors and parents through all they need to know about financing their college education. If you have any questions, please contact our college counselors, LEIGH JACKSON or KIMBERLY HABICH.
- MERCY DAY CELEBRATION: On Tuesday, September 24, we will join schools across the country who are sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy to celebrate our common identity and mission. At our assembly, we will celebrate the many ways that we make mercy real as individuals and as a community, especially in the areas of the “critical concerns” of the Sisters of Mercy. We will also name this year’s “Models of Mercy.” We welcome you to join us at 10:15 a.m. in the gym for this special celebration.
CAMPUS MINISTRY:
- PARENT PRAYER: The Parent Prayer group meets each Tuesday morning from 8:15 – 8:45 a.m. in the chapel at St. Catherine’s Convent which is right across Tyler Lane from AHS. Just look for the sign! If you are unable to attend but would like them to pray for a particular intention, please email it to our campus minister at maryann.steutermann@ahsrockets.org. We hope you find comfort in knowing that we are praying for your intention even if you can’t be present.
SAFETY & SECURITY AUDIT: The safety of your daughter is our highest priority, and to that end AHS is voluntarily working with the Kentucky Center for School Safety to audit the security and safety of our facilities. This is being done as a preventative measure and not in response to any issues. Representatives will be at Assumption on Wednesday, October 2, performing a site visit and also speaking to faculty, staff, and students. We also will be notifying students that the audit will be taking place. If you have any questions regarding the visit, please contact AHS President Mary Lang at mary.lang@ahsrockets.org.
CARPOOL LINE: Parents, thank you so much for your help in making the carpool line move as smoothly as possible by pulling all the way up to the car in front of you before stopping. You may have noticed our ambassador encouraging your daughter to exit your vehicle as soon as it stops, and that really helps move the line along. Also, please help your daughter be ready to exit the car as soon as you stop in the carpool line anywhere between the two crosswalks—the first one where an administrator with a stop sign helps the girls cross safely from the main parking lot and the second one near the entrance to the CAC where there is a student with a stop sign helping with the flow of people and vehicles. Students may enter the building via the doors at the Arts and Sciences wing or the CAC. Thank you very much for your assistance!
REMINDER ABOUT DELIVERIES: In an effort to teach our students about being accountable for their own belongings as well as to limit the number of visitors to school during the day and effectively monitor those visitors coming into the school, we have a policy that does NOT allow for student deliveries. Parents – please do not bring items (lunches, homework, bake sale items, sports equipment, food for meetings, presentations, papers, etc.) to school to drop off for your daughters. Our main office staff and athletic office staff have been instructed not to accept those deliveries. Thank you for your cooperation with these efforts
ACADEMIC BANQUET: The deadline to RSVP for Academic Banquet was Wednesday, September 18. We are unable to accommodate any additional reservations.
KHEAA DUAL CREDIT SCHOLARSHIP IS OPEN: Parents of students enrolled in a dual credit course: Your daughter will receive an email from KHEAA with information regarding applying for the Dual Credit Scholarship to pay for up to TWO dual credit courses during her high school career. Mrs. Fieldhouse will visit classes and study halls next week to help your daughter complete this very simple application. Please initiate a conversation with your daughter so you know if she is taking additional courses for which you will need to pay the college or university through her account at UL, WKU and/or JCTC. For your information, here are the directions sent to us from KHEAA: KHEAA DIRECTIONS. Please contact JUDY FIELDHOUSE if you have any additional questions.
WALK FOR ASSUMPTION: On Friday, September 27, we will hold our 37th annual Walk for Assumption, an event to which our students make contributions to support financial assistance at Assumption. This year’s theme chosen by the students is “Walk to Save the World”. In order to participate in the Walk for Assumption, students must sell a minimum of three Rocket Raffle tickets and turn in a signed Walk permission form. Tickets cost $25 each, and the purchaser is entered into a drawing for $20,000, which will take place at our Rocket Spectacular on Saturday, February 1, 2020. If the school reaches our goal of 2,850 tickets sold, not only will we have an amazing Walk for Assumption, but students will earn the day off from school on the Friday, March 27, 2020, the Friday before spring break! We are encouraging the girls to reach out not only to their parents but to other people in their lives who would like the opportunity to support them and the community of Assumption through the Walk and the Rocket Raffle. We hope that over the next week you will help your daughter brainstorm ways that she can sell her tickets to help support financial aid and to make the Walk a success!
Collections of the students’ contributions will take place at lunches the weeks of Monday, September 16, and Monday, September 23. The deadline for collection is Wednesday, September 25, at 1:30 p.m.
Walk collection/Walk permission forms for sophomores, juniors, and seniors: Sophomores, juniors, and seniors should turn in their three Rocket Raffle tickets and a signed permission slip by Wednesday, September 25, to participate in the Walk. The first three Rocket Raffle tickets and permission slip must be turned in together. Students may continue to turn in Rocket Raffle tickets up until the deadline in order to support our efforts.
Walk collections/Walk and Sleepover permission forms for freshmen and Walk Sleepover: On Thursday, September 26, freshmen are invited to a Walk Sleepover in the gym. The cost of the Walk Sleepover is $5. In order to participate, freshmen need to turn in their Walk permission slip, sleepover permission slip, a minimum of three Rocket Raffle tickets, and $5. The two signed permission slips, tickets, and $5 are due by the end of lunches on Wednesday, September 25. All freshmen are asked to turn in both permission slips even if a freshman is not planning to attend the sleepover. Freshmen should arrive for the sleepover between 8:00-8:30 p.m. and enter through the doors at the gym lobby. Please contact JENNIFER RUCKRIEGEL or THERESA SCHUHMANN if you have any questions about the Freshman Walk Sleepover. Pick up time on Friday, September 27, will be 12:00 p.m.
Walk/Sleepover Permission Forms
For the safety of our students, to participate in the walk each student must turn in a Walk Permission form signed by her guardian. A student may not sign the form on behalf of their guardian, and a check on signature is not a substitute for a signature on a form. Guardian signatures are only valid on the AHS Walk Permission form/s.
ROCKETTIME PREVENTION PROGRAM: During RocketTime on September 23, students will attend a prevention-themed RocketTime program with featured speaker Capt. Mike Halbleib. As the father of an Assumption student, he has a passion for helping students and parents through his law enforcement expertise. We invite parents to view a video shown last year to assist you in your prevention lessons at home with their daughter so that we may all work collaboratively to help our girls make safe choices. A link to the video is available on the Rocket Parent Network page of the Assumption website: Prevention Video by Mike Halbleib
TESTING DAY FOR SENIORS: Since seniors are not involved in taking standardized tests on Testing Day, Wednesday, October 16, they are excused from coming to school on this day. We strongly encourage seniors to use this day for making college visits. Since Thursday and Friday of that week, and Monday of the following week, are Fall Break days, this is a great opportunity of make a visit to an out-of-town college.
