Dear Parents,
Today, we are sending out a special “early” edition of the Rocket Report. The Rocket Report is sent every Friday afternoon during the school year with the exception of those Fridays which are school holidays. This is our primary method of regular communication with our families, and we hope this weekly report keeps everyone informed of important information. Please check your email each Friday and let us know if your email address changes so that we have accurate contact information. In case you miss it or want to look back at a previous issue, the Rocket Report is always available on our website, www.ahsrockets.org, under the parent link. The administration, faculty, and staff are excited to begin another new year with you!
VERY IMPORTANT – TRAFFIC FLOW AND CARPOOL PROCEDURES: Below is the link to very important information about traffic for drop-off and pick-up each day. Please read carefully. Students dropped off between 7:15-7:55 a.m. (8:55 a.m. on Wednesdays) must report to the cafeteria. Students can move to their first block class at 7:55 a.m. (8:55 a.m. on Wednesdays).
A few tips: We suggest that parents and students plan to arrive between 7:20 and 7:40 to avoid the heavy traffic in the morning and plan to pick up after 3:10 p.m. to avoid the heavy traffic in the afternoon; our school doors open at 7:15 a.m. each school day, and we provide supervision in the cafeteria from 7:15-7:55 a.m. (until 8:55 a.m. on 9:05 Schedule days) and in the cafeteria from 3:15-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and until 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Everything moves much more quickly and smoothly when everyone follows the rules!
CARPOOL PROCEDURES AND TRAFFIC FLOW
PARENTS OF SENIORS AND JUNIORS WHO WILL BE DRIVING TO SCHOOL: Please make sure your daughter reviews the specific directions about how to access her on-campus parking spot provided with her parking tag. In order to alleviate traffic congestion on Bardstown Road, students who park on the main campus may not enter from Bardstown Road in the morning. All student drivers will enter from Tyler Lane by following their specific directions, even those who are parking in the St. Raphael lot.
FRESHMAN FIRST DAY & FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL: Here is the link to our freshman first day and first week of schedules as well as information about uniforms and what to bring each day: OPENING AND DAILY SCHEDULES . A few reminders:
- Monday: Students should be in their uniforms, NOT spirit wear, on Monday, August 12.
- Wednesday: The first Wednesday of the school year, August 14, will be a regular 8:05 schedule. Our Wednesday 9:05 schedule will begin on August 21.
UNIFORMS: All students should be in full uniform on Monday, August 12 (NOT SPIRIT WEAR – spirit wear Mondays will begin on August 19). We ask for your help in improving the look of your daughter’s Assumption school uniform for the 2019-2020 school year. A few uniform reminders: please take time this week to assess her current uniform shirts, sweater, and skirt. Please pay special attention to your daughter’s skirt to assure that it is in good condition, fits, and its length is no more than three inches above the knee. You may need to purchase socks specifically for the purpose of wearing to school as they must be solid black or white and must be clearly visible above the top of the shoe; new this year; socks may have a small black or white single logo on them. Also, athletic, casual, or dress shoes must be primarily solid black, white, brown, tan, gray, or maroon. They may not be patterned or embellished; fluorescent and neon colors are allowed only for laces, soles, and logos, not as the main/solid color of the shoe.
TEXTBOOKS: All students should have their textbooks at this time. If your daughter still needs textbooks, please access the Booklist from MBS .
OPENING SCHOOL LITURGY: We invite all of our families to attend our opening school liturgy celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin on Thursday, August 15. We will begin Mass at St. Raphael Church at approximately 10:30 a.m.

We ask our freshman parents to meet in the Convocation and Athletic Center (CAC/gym) and we will direct you to classrooms for various presentations. This meeting will last approximately two hours. Our sophomore parents should meet in The Humana Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Center, our theater. This meeting will last about an hour. Important information about the school year will be shared at these meetings, and you will have the opportunity to meet with other parents and our administrators and staff.
JUNIOR PARENT ORIENTATION NIGHT: On Tuesday, August 13, at 6:30 p.m., we will have a mandatory parent meeting for our junior parents (parents only, not students). This meeting will take place in The Humana Foundation Performing and Fine Arts Center, our theater, and should last about an hour.
PHYSICALS AND IMMUNIZATION CERTIFICATES: ALL STUDENTS (returning, incoming freshmen, transfers) are required by state statute to provide a new Commonwealth of Kentucky Certificate of Immunization Status which must be on file with the school by the first day of classes on August 12. Also, incoming freshmen and transfer students need to have updated physicals for the 2019-2020 school year on file with us by August 12. If you haven’t already submitted these forms, please bring them to the attendance/nurse’s office or to the main office on or before the first day of school. You can use this link to access the AHS Physical Form if you need one. If you have any questions, please use the links provided to you via our summer mailing or feel free to contact our school nurse, LAURA BURNAM RN.
BACK TO SCHOOL FORMS: Please be sure to complete and return to school the forms that were mentioned in the summer back to school SUMMER LETTER: Parent Directory Opt-Out form, Grandparent Mass Information Form, Retreat Form, and the Rocket Parent Membership Form. Please have your daughter return these forms to the main office.
STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK: The complete version of the Student-Parent Handbook is available on our website at this link: STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK 2019-2020. Please take time to review the handbook as we will be reviewing highlights of the handbook with your daughter next week.
FLIK LUNCH ACCOUNTS: MySchoolBucks, the company that handles the Flik online deposits, is accepting online payments now at www.myschoolbucks.com. All of the balances that were left from last year have been carried over to the new school year. If you plan to write a check for your daughter’s lunch account, please be sure to make the check payable to FLIK and to include your daughter’s name and ID number in the memo line, especially if your last name is different than your daughter’s. Your daughter can drop off the check in the cafeteria drop box during school hours. Thanks for your help with this!
